French champions Lyon came from behind to edge Sochaux 2-1 and claim the Super Cup title for the sixth successive season. Lyon's manager Alan Perrin, who replaced Gerard Houllier, came face to face with his former club Sochaux, with whom he won the French Cup last season. At Stade Gerland, Sochaux Slovenian forward Valter Birsa put his side ahead in the 14th minute against the run of play. Sidney Govou needed just six minutes to grab the equalizer before Lyon's skipper Cris sealed the victory two minutes before the interval. Lyon, who have dominated the French League since 2002, open their title defense against Auxerre next weekend.
