Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer has confirmed that English midfielder Owen Hargreaves is set to complete a move to Premiership champions Manchester United. The Red Devils have been in continuous pursuit for the Canadian-born midfielder and the player expressed his desire for an Old Trafford switch, but the Bavarian giants have persistently blocked the transfer. However, Beckenbauer finally confirmed that Bayern are ready to sell Hargreaves upon the player's request. "Owen is leaving. That was the player's wish. It's a good match and it's also a good deal financially," Beckenbauer told Germany's DSF sports television network. The Kaiser did not specify an accurate amount for the deal, but it is expected that the Bavarians will receive a Bundesliga record amount of 25M Euros. Hargreaves struggled to fill in Michael Ballack's gap in Bayern's midfield, as he played just nine league games this season, having spent most of the term on the sidelines with a Fibula injury. The England international could be Bayern's fifth departing player in the summer, as Ottmar Hitzfeld looks to reshuffle his squad in order to make up for this season's failure.
