The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has decided to hand the Egyptian League final round clash between Ahli and Ismaili to Greek referee Kyros Vassaras. The refereeing committee president Gamal Al-Ghandour selected Vassaras for the game upon the request of the Ismailia-based club, the EFA announced on its official website. The 41-year-old is a high-profile official in Europe, as he officiated this year's UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg clash between Manchester United and AC Milan. Vassaras also took charge of last season's goalless draw between Ahli and Zamalek in Cairo.
Ahli already celebrated their third successive league title The game will be of high importance to the Dervishes, who are chasing second place in the league and a CAF Champions League spot. On the other hand, Ahli have been already declared Egyptian champions and have most of their key players rested. Ismaili handed the reigning champions their only defeat of the season. The first encounter that took place in Cairo last January ended in a crushing 3-0 defeat for the title holders.
