Morocco's Wydad Casablanca were the only Arab team not to qualify from the last 16 phase of the CAF Champions League after they were held to a goalless home draw with ASEC Mimosas on Sunday. The Abidjan giants have already registered a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Moroccans a fortnight ago to go through 2-0 on aggregate. Wydad's exit sends them to the last 16 phase of the African Confederation Cup where they will face Egypt's Ismaili. However, Ittihad of Libya made a historic first ever entrance to the last eight after they managed to beat Etoile de Congo 2-0 in Tripoli. Salem Rewani converted two second-half penalties to put the Libyan minnows through on the away goals rule following a 3-1 first leg defeat and a 4-4 aggregate draw. Ittihad then join the plethora of Arab teams making it to the group phase after Tunisia's Esperance and Etoile Sahel went comfortably through on Saturday and were joined by Morocco's Royal Armed Forces. Holders Ahli of Egypt, Algeria's JS Kabylie and Sudanese surprise package Al-Hilal have all booked their last eight spots on Friday. The draw for the group phase will take place in Cairo at the end of May but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have not set a date yet.
