Christoph Preuss notched what proved to be the winner 12 minutes from time to help his team ease their relegation worries. The Bavarian giants remained fourth on 44 points, trailing third-placed Stuttgart by two points. Elsewhere, Thomas Doll's first game in charge of Borussia Dortmund ended in a goalless draw against Nurnberg while HSV Hamburg held Hannover 96 with the same score. Wolfsburg climbed to tenth place after beating Bochum 3-1, courtesy of Isaac Boakye, Alexander Madlung and Marcelo Dos Santos goals while Theofanis Gekas scored Bochum's only goal.
