Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard said his side's 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday brought "tranquility" to the Catalan giants. The Spanish champions secured their place in the last 16, thanks to goals from Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho and Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnsen. "I congratulate my players for fulfilling their job, the result gives us much tranquility," Rijkaard was quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo on Wednesday. "We have begun the match very well and took advantage of the scoring opportunities. To be two goals-up was fundamental."
Barcelona qualified as second in Group A with 11 points, two adrift of leaders Chelsea. Rijkaard admitted beating the Bundesliga leaders was tough, while applauding Barca's French winger Ludovic Giuly for his efforts throughout the match. "In the second-half, Bremen demonstrated that they are a very good team, it wasn't easy to beat them and that's why I'm very content," the Dutch coach said. "Giuly's pace played a pivotal role in our performance," he concluded.
