Argentinean-born midfielder Mauro Camoranesi put on a remarkable display in the second-half to help Italy beat ten-man Georgia 3-1 in the Euro 2008 qualifiers. Daniele De Rossi put the World champions ahead in the 17th minute but Giorgi Shashiashvili leveled for the hosts nine minutes later. Jaba Kankava was sent off on the hour mark for collecting a second yellow card, opening the door for the Italians to dominate. Camoranesi, who plays now in Serie B with Juventus, restored the lead in the 61st minute before feeding Simone Perrotta to seal the victory ten minutes later. Italy held on to third spot in Group B with seven points, two behind Scotland, who lost to Ukraine 2-0. World Cup silver medalists France snatched the group summit after producing a 5-0 drubbing of Faroe Islands later on the same day. De Rossi fired from long range past the goalkeeper to open the score line against a huge Georgian crowd. Shashiashvili gave the packed stadium something to cheer about in the 26th minute when he curled an outstanding finish from the edge of the area into the top corner.
Henry But Kankava's red card in the 60th minute and Camoranesi's form settled the score in the favor of Italy. Camoranesi towered to head home one minute later as the Italians tightened their grip on the game. They put the icing on the cake in the 71st minute when Camoranesi laid the ball off for the anticipating Perrotta who had no problem in burying a low shot into the back of the net. In Sochaux, All France strikers found the net in an easy 5-0 triumph over Faroe Island. Luis Saha broke the deadlock as early as the second minute when he poked home after captain Patrick Vieira's initial effort was denied. Thierry Henry widened the gap in the 22nd minute after converting a right-flank cross from Willy Sagnol.
