Italy exit Confederations after Brazil thrashing
Published in FilGoal on 21 - 06 - 2009

Brazil thrashed Italy 3-0 to eliminate the world champions from the FIFA Confederations Cup first round.
After beating USA 3-1 and losing to Egypt 1-0, Italy needed to beat Brazil and wait for Egypt to stumble against USA.
The massive win guarantees Brazil Group B leadership with nine points from three games. Carlos Dunga's men qualify alongside USA, who similarly humbled Egypt 3-0.
All three goals came in the first half as Luis Fabiano scored a brace on 37 and 43 minutes before Andrea Dossena's own goal right before the interval.
The game witnessed a fiery start, which surprisingly came from the Brazilians, who hit the crossbar in the sixth minute through Ramires.
The Italians tried to hit back but Mauro Camoranesi's half-volley went narrowly over Julio Cesar's bar.

Lippi's men are out
The Selecao were once again denied by the goal frame after Fabiano's cross hit Daniele De Rossi and went off the post.
The Sevilla man was rewarded three minutes later when he turned Giorgio Chiellini to finish off Douglas Maicon's pass.
While Italy went looking for a quick equalizer, a perfect counter attack lead by Kaka and Robinho enabled Fabiano to stun the Azzuri with a third goal.
Marcello Lippi's men were all over the place and Andrea Dossena made it three in seven goals in seven minutes for Brazil by converting Robinho's cross into his own net.
In the second half, Dunga's men were more than happy to defend their lead as Italy seemed helpless and couldn't manage to create any real chances.
Substitute Pepe had one shy attempt but his shot was saved by Cesar in the 63rd minute.
The result means that Italy are yet to beat Brazil since the 1982 World Cup, where Paolo Rossi and co defeated Tele Santana's men 3-2.
