Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas will sign an eight-year contract extension with Arsenal, coach Arsene Wenger said on Wednesday. "He is 19. He signed a contract [some time ago] but that was agreed before with his initial contract. The real new contract comes now," the Frenchman was quoted as saying by Arsenal's official website. "Nineteen plus eight is 27. Not many [contracts] are longer but when you are 19 years-old and are already a regular player in the team [then] I don't have a problem." Fabregas, who came through Barcelona's youth ranks, established himself as a regular in Arsenal squad last season after France captain Patrick Vieira left for Juventus. Wenger is delighted to secure the future of Fabrgeas, who played a key role in leading Arsenal to the UEFA Champions League final last season. "It is a wonderful commitment from him and it is a reward for us because we brought him over at 16 years of age. It shows you can give a young player the culture of this Club." The Spanish international was linked with a move to Real Madrid in the off-season as he was targeted by the Spanish giants' president Ramon Calderon.
