A late header by Peter Crouch gave Liverpool a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday to lift the Community Shield trophy. Andriy Shevchenko's goal just before half time cancelled out John Arne Riise's early opener. Crouch sealed the victory ten minutes from time to hand Liverpool a perfect start to the new season. Liverpool started the match with skipper Steven Gerrard, midfielder Xabi Alonso and defender Sami Hyypia on the bench while Premiership champions Chelsea opted to rest first-choice keeper Petr Cech. Norwegian winger Riise needed nine minutes to break the deadlock when he picked up the ball in his side's own half and raced through the midfield before firing a powerful shot past Chelsea keeper Carlo Cudicini from 25-yards. Chelsea's new striker Shevchenko leveled the score two minutes before the interval when he received Frank Lampard's superb long pass on his chest before slotting home. England international Crouch scored the winner in the 80th minute after he headed home Craig Bellamy's inch-perfect cross past Cudicini.
