Jose Pekerman resigned as Argentina manager after his side lost to Germany on Friday and failed to reach the World Cup semis. "This has come to an end and I will certainly not go on," Pekerman was quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "You have to make a decision and I'm convinced I've done everything in my reach, and it's time to look for something else." Argentina looked on their way to secure a place in the last four as they were leading Germany 1-0 till the 80th minute. But Miroslav Klose scored a late equalizer to take the game to an extra time that finished in a 1-1 draw. In the shootout, Esteban Cambiasso and Roberto Ayala failed to beat Germany keeper Jens Lehmann as the Germans advanced on a 4-2 win. "I'm very sorry for the coaches and the fans and the players, this team deserve to go further but we couldn't make it," the 56-year-old boss said. "The penalties were a consequence of a very even match. It's a shame for Argentina who played very well and in the whole championship." Argentina were one of the favorites to win the World Cup with their brilliant displays in the group stage and the round of 16.
