Spanish coach Rafael Benitez has signed a new four-year contract with Liverpool for an undisclosed fee that will see him stay at Anfield until 2010, the Premiership club announced on their official website on Friday. The former Valencia coach had a direct impact on the team ever since taking over Liverpool in 2004 and by leading them to a UEFA Champions League victory in his first season and guiding them to finish second in the Premiership, in addition to clinching the FA Cup title in his second season. "I'm delighted to have now signed the contract, there was never going to be a problem once we reached an agreement last season, and now all the documents have been signed and sent to the club," Benitez told the official website. Benitez was also linked with Real Madrid, who are looking for a new manager and have revealed their interest in the 46-year-old tactician, but the Spaniard opted not to make any decision till the end of Real's presidential elections. However, Benitez ended such speculations about his future by signing the new contract with Liverpool and has expressed his happiness at staying with the Merseyside club. "I'm very happy at Liverpool and hope we can enjoy more success in the seasons to come," Benitez said.
