No surprises in Brazil's World Cup squad
Published in FilGoal on 16 - 05 - 2006

Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has announced the names of the 23-man squad which will represent Brazil in next month's World Cup.
The squad list came earlier than expected, as Parreira counts on the same group of players who won last summer's Confederations Cup and played throughout Brazil's qualifying campaign.
"I'm happy that people got the team right, this is not time for doubts, uncertainties or surprises," Parreira was quoted as saying by the official Brazilian Federation website.
"I've never felt calmed or relaxed as I am today, despite the great responsibility of picking the Brazilian team for the World Cup, it's all perfectly under control," Parreira was quoted as saying by the Brazilian Federation official website.
The only omission that may come as a minor surprise was not selecting Bayer Leverkusen defender Roque Junior who is already a World Cup winner with Brazil in 2002.
Sao Paolo keeper Rogerio Cerni, who scored 50 goals for his club from penalties and free kicks was called as a third choice keeper after Marcos sustained an injury, which will leave him unfit for the finals.
Apart from that, the defending champions will witness the presence of stars like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Adriano and Kaka leading their front line.
The five-time World Champions will be facing Croatia, Australia and Japan in group B and are tipped as favorites to win the tournament, however Parreira says that won't let them take their opponents for granted.
"Being favorites won't interfere, it's something that comes from outside, the players are very conscious that on the field, everything is equal and it's 11 against 11.
"We have to treat each game as a final and give each opponent our full respect, otherwise anybody could surprise us," he added.
The Brazil squad:
Goalkeepers: Dida (AC Milan), Julio Cesar (Inter Milan), Rogerio Ceni (Sao Paulo)
Defenders: Cafu (AC Milan), Cicinho (Real Madrid), Lucio (Bayern Munich), Juan (Bayer Leverkusen), Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid), Gilberto (Hertha Berlin), Cris (Olympique Lyon), Luisao (Benfica)
Midfielders: Edmilson (Barcelona), Juninho Pernambucano (Olympique Lyon), Emerson (Juventus), Ze Roberto (Bayern Munich), Gilberto Silva (Arsenal), Kaka (AC Milan), Ricardinho (Corinthians)
Forwards: Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Robinho (Real Madrid), Ronaldinho (Barcelona), Adriano (Inter Milan), Fred (Olympique Lyon)
