Juventus were crowned Scudetto champions for the second successive season after beating Reggina 2-0 in the conclusion of the Serie A 2005/2006 season on Sunday. Goals from Frenchman David Trezeguet and skipper Alessandro Del Piero secured Juve's 29th league title. Juventus finished the Serie A season three points ahead of second-placed AC Milan who beat AS Roma 2-1. The Italian champions' celebrations are however tainted with investigations into allegations of match-fixing that involve Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi and Italian Football Federation officials. If found guilty, the Bianconeri could be stripped of their last two titles and demoted to Serie B. Trezeguet put Juventus ahead in the 23rd minute when he pounced on a loose ball after Reggina keeper Ivan Pelizzoli tipped away Fabio Cannavaro's initial effort from under the bar. Del Piero sealed the win with a brilliant drive from a tight angle in injury time to trigger celebrations at the Stadio San Nicola.
Elsewhere, Milan edged past Roma with a 2-1 win, which proved insufficient to snatch the title from rivals Juventus. Kaka put Milan ahead from a 5th minute penalty-kick before Roma's French defender Philippe Mexes grabbed a 33rd minute equalizer. Brazilian substitute Marcio Amoroso gave Milan the victory from the penalty spot after Cesare Bovo had towed down Alberto Gilardino in the area. In other matches third-placed Inter Milan were held to a 2-2 draw by Cagliari while Fiorentina secured 4th place and a Champions League spot for next season with a 2-0 win at Chievo. Meanwhile, Lazio beat Parma 1-0, Empoli lost at home to Ascoli 2-1, Pa;er,o edged past Messina with a 1-0 win, Lecce crushed Sampdoria 3-1, Livorno held Siena to a goalless draw and Treviso beat Udinese 2-1. All three relegation spots had already been decided before the final day with heading into Serie B. Roma, Lazio and Chievo will represent Italy in the UEFA Cup next season while Treviso, Lecce and Messina will be relegated to Serie B.
