Dream Land - Ahmed Maher & Ahmed Saied : Cameroon manager Artur Jorge said his side is at the brink of facing tough competition in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations. The Indomitable Lions secured passage to the last eight with two victories over Angola and Togo and are likely to play host nation Egypt or Ivory Coast, with Morocco also still in the running. “It won't make a difference if we face Egypt or Ivory Coast, both are strong and tough teams to play,” Jorge told FilGoal.com after the team's training on Saturday. The three teams were competing in Group C of World Cup qualifiers with Ivory Coast snatching the group ticket to make their first appearance in the glamorous event. However, Cameroon, who came second in the qualifiers, beat the Ivorian side home and away but, ironically, couldn't register a win over third-place Egypt, losing a game and tying in the second.
“The qualifying results don't give us advantage over Ivory Coast nor give Egypt and advantage over us,” the Portuguese coach said. Cameroon players said they don't have favorites to play in the second round but they are, according to midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba, less cautious than their coach is. “We don't care who our opponent will be simply because we will beat either Ivory Coast or Egypt,” the Aston Villa player told FilGoal.com. “We need to win the tournament because this is the only thing that will make us forget the World Cup disappointment.” Ivory Coast are two points clear at the top of Group A and will play second-place Egypt on Saturday in the last group-stage game.
