Guinea recorded the 2006 African Cup of Nations (ACN)'s first major surprise with their shock 2-0 victory over South Africa in the Group C match that took place on Sunday in Alexandria. Striker Sambegou Bangoura gave Guinea the lead in the 79th minute before midfielder Ousmane Bangoura secure his side's victory two minutes from full-time. Guinea come at second place in the Group C standings behind leaders Tunisia only on goal difference.
A South African fan disappointed with defeat The match witnessed a totally revitalized Guinea who withstood the South African pressure throughout the match and were able to find the net several times in the first-half but squandered all the chances. Guinea depended mainly on quick and deft counterattacks and found their call when Sambegou connected a cross straight into the South African net in the 79th minute. Ousmane doubled Guinea's lead and secured their victory after firing a throbbing shot from inside the box in they dying minutes of the match.
