Dutch striker Robin Van Persie signed a contract extension that will see him stay at Arsenal until 2011, the Premiership club announced on Friday on their official website. “I am very happy that I have extended my contract to 2011. I am very happy too with my team-mates and the boss. In fact a lot of my progress is down to him and his faith in me,” Van Persie was quoted as saying. The 22-year-old striker moved to Arsenal coming from Dutch outfit Feyenoord in April 2004 for $4.8-million. “When the Club phoned me to say we want to offer you a new contract, we only chatted two or three days on the financial stuff. That is not the main thing for me. The main thing is that I am happy here and we are about to go into a fantastic new stadium. That is why I stayed.” Van Persie scored nine goals in only 14 matches during this season and is expected to return to his side's FA Cup encounter against Cardiff that will take place on Saturday.
