Ahli claimed a vital 1-0 away victory over Leopards in the CAF Champions League, thanks to a first-half strike by Walid Soliman. Soliman, who missed a crucial penalty in the humiliating defeat to Orlando Pirates, struck home before half time in what was Ahli's only attempt on goal. Ahli's first win in Group A put them back into the scene by leveling with Leopards and Pirates on four points, although the latter meet Zamalek later on Saturday. Gandze vs. Ekrami Sherif Ekrami was called into action in the 18th minute when he made a full-stretch save to thwart a Cesaire Gandze shot. With the hosts dictating play, Ahli struck on the counter thanks to a super through pass by Mohamed Abou-Treika to the path of Soliman, who powerfully slotted home before half time. Leopards almost equalized seconds before the break, but again Ekrami was there to block from Gandze. For the third time the lively Gandze was at the center when he went one on one with Ekrami, but this time the Leopards midfielder blasted over the bar. But that was all Gandze and Co. could do as the holders fought their way back into contention with the away three points.
