Ghana and Nigeria were beaten by France and Portugal on the first day of the FIFA U-20 World Cup. African Youth Championship runners-up Ghana lost 3-1 to a tough France side with goals from Geoffrey Kondogbia, Yaya Sanogo and Jean-Christophe Bahebeck. Yiadom Boakye scored Ghana's only goal in the last five minutes. In Group B, Nigeria lost 3-2 to Portugal in a thriller that saw the Flying Eagles come back from two goals by Bruma and Aladje to equalize through star man Abdul-Jaleel Ajagun. But Portugal and Sporting Lisbon ace Bruma netted the winner to give Portugal a winning start. Elsewhere, South Korea beat debutants Cuba 2-1 while Spain thrashed USA 4-1. Ghana 1-3 France
