EGYPTAIR Express, the regional and domestic carrier, and Al-Kharafi group Company have recently held a gala in the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria attended by Adel Labib, the Governor of Alexandria; and Rashid bin Hamid, the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Egypt. The gala celebrates the commencement of a new regular airline between Alexandria/Sharm el-Sheikh/ Mersa Allam operating two trips a week starting from the first of July based on sharing the costs between both airlines and the airport. The carrier is operating services to Mersa Allam, a BOT airport operated by Kuwaiti Al-Kharafi group, under an agreement reached in 2007 to operate the service on the same basis. Vice President, Ibrahim Saleh signed for Al-Kharafi Group. According to Express Chairman Helmi Rizq, the new agreement allows the carrier to expand current operations between Cairo and Mersa Allam from five to seven flights weekly starting from the first of July. "A weekly flight from Upper Egypt's Luxor city will be launched on Mondays. We will add a weekly flight on Fridays from Abu Simbel starting from next October," explained Rizq. Mersa Allam will be connected to Alexandria with two flights weekly via Sharm El-Sheikh. "This means adding more flights to the Sharm El-Sheikh service," he added. Express, under the agreement, is scheduled to operate three new services from the Mersa Allam airport to Jeddah, Kuwait and Amman, each with two flights a week.
