CAIRO - An Egyptian lawyer has filed a complaint to the nation's Chief Prosecutor about an annual belly dancing festival, the latest edition of which is due to be held later this month. "Dancing in public constiutes a violation of the Islamic Sharia and encourages girls to be lewed and immoral," said the lawyer Nabih el-Wahsh in his complaint against Minister of Culture Farouq Hosni. The lawyer demanded the festival be banned and its organisers be probed. Belly dancing, a once-popular genre in Egypt, has recently dwindled due to Islamists' growing influence.
