The number of vessels sailing along the Suez Canal last May reached 1,652 last May an increase of 6.4 per cent compared to the same period in 2009, according to an Egyptian official. Mahmoud Abdel Wahab, the spokesman for the Suez Canal Authority, added that the overall tonnage transported through the major waterway last May reached 7,108 million tonnes, up 20.7 per cent against the same period last year. The increase boosted the revenues, which reached 395 million dollars last May.
