As these Thanawiya Amma (General Certificate of Secondary Education) girls emerged from the exam room in a Cairo school Monday, they huddled together under one parasol to protect themselves from the strong sun while reviewing their answers. These girls and more than 400,000 other students are set to finish their Thanawiya Amma exams for the year by this weekend. In Sohag, more than 700km south of Cairo, an exam invigilator died due to the high temperature, which reached 47 degrees centigrade, according to a preliminary forensic report. Temperatures are expected to sharply fall tomorrow. However, everyone who has to get out in today's searing sun should bring their parasol.
