AN Egyptian film star who plays the a role in “Fair Game” faces a possible ban in Egypt if he is found guilty of acting with an Israeli in the Hollywood spy film. Actor Khalid el-Nabawi ran into trouble when the Egyptians Actors' Union learned that Israeli actress Lraz Charhi is playing a leading role in the film. El-Nabawi, who appeared alongside Charhi, defended his position, saying that he hadn't known an Israeli was involved until after the shooting of the film started. He added that the film was pro-Arab, and criticises US foreign policy. "The position of Egyptian Actors' Union is clear in their rejection of normalisation with Israel, and requires that members abide by this position," Ashraf Zaki , the head of the Actors' Union, said. "Khalid el-Nabawi will be facing an investigation next week," Zaki added. El-Nabawi could face expulsion from the union, which would prevent him from acting in Egypt. Zaki said that the union's by-laws banned its members from having any relations with Israelis. The union's regulations punish any member doing business or travelling to Israel by striking him/her off. "The union believes that establishing contacts with the Zionist enemy is an offense punishable by law," said Zaki to the 48 Hour Talk Show, which was aired by el-Mehwar TV Station on Tuesday night. Egypt and Jordan are the only Arab nations that have peace deals with Israel. Anti-Israel sentiment runs high in Egypt, the Arab world's most-populous country.
