The Prosecutor's office in the southern Egyptian city of Aswan has detained a man and charged him with attempting to kill a Belgian tourist late Tuesday, police sources said Wednesday. The accused has been identified as a former teacher in Aswan who was dismissed from his job due to psychological illness. He allegedly attacked a 26-year-old Belgian tourist who was walking with a group near a museum in Aswan on Tuesday and stabbed him in the neck. Police sources say the attacker claimed he was sent by god to rid humanity of evil. The victim has been transported to Cairo, where he is receiving medical care.
