The latest developments in Iraq were discussed Wednesday when President Hosni Mubarak received the former Iraqi prime minister Ayad Allawi at the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. The Mubarak-Allawi talks focused as well on the formation of the new Iraqi government and Egypt's efforts to push forward stability and development in Iraq, Egypt's official Middle East News Agency (MENA) said on Wednesday. It added that Allawi also congratulated Mubarak on his recovery from recent surgery he underwent in Germany. Allawi, whose Iraqiya alliance won the highest number of seats in Iraq's parliamentary elections last month, stated that his country needed an interim government to prevent "tampering" aimed at overturning the ballot results.
