Sniffing the Breeze Day
Yoyo wei miratuh Carmella fi beithum aashan yeqarraro ezzai yehitflu b eid el-rabbie aw Sham el-Nesseim elli kol el-massriyeen ha yehitaffilu beih el-naharda.
Yoyo and his wife Carmella are at home to decide on where to go during the spring feast, locally known as Sham el-Nesseim, which is celebrated in Egypt today.
Yoyo: Eih raeek nerouh Iskindriya ashaan neeoum filbahr, wei netghadah heinak samak, wei fessikh, wei bassal akhdar, wei beid mellowen?
Yoyo: What do you think about going to Alexandria to swim in the sea, and have a lunch of (fresh) fish, salted fish, green onions and coloured eggs?
Carmella: Fikra kuwaisa ya Yoyo. Tayyeb eh rayaak lao nourouh hadeeqat el-andalus, wei nakul fiteer meshaltit, wei gibnah, wei samak mashwi?
Carmella: That's a good idea, Yoyo. OK, how about going to the Andalusian Garden, where we can eat home-made Egyptian pies, cheese and grilled fish?
Yoyo: Fikra helwa awi ya Carmella.
Yoyo: That's a sweet idea, Carmella.
Yoyo: Tehibi terkabi markeb fil-Nil el-awal wei baadein nerooh el-hadeeqa?
Yoyo: Would you like to ride a boat on the Nile first and later, we'll go to the garden?
Carmella: Di fikra azema ya Yoyo.
Carmella: That's a great idea, Yoyo.
Yoyo: Tayyeb, tehbi teroohi fein tanni ya Carmella youm Sham el-Nesseem?
Yoyo: OK, where else would you like to go on Sham el-Nesseem Day?
Carmella: Tehb nerouh hadeeqat el-hayawanaat elli fi- Giza?
Carmella: Would you like to go to the Giza Zoo?
Yoyo: Nerouh hadeeqat elhayawanaat aashan terekabbi el-feil, wei teakili el-toyoor bi eediki.
Yoyo: We'll go to the zoo so that you can ride an elephant and feed the birds with your hands.
Carmella: Alla fikra ana amala lek mofagaa. Carmella: By the way, I have a surprise for you.
Yoyo: Eih heya?
Yoyo: What is it?
Carmella: Ana gebt lek fessikh wei renga, wei bassal akhdar.
Carmella: I've got you fessikh and herrings and green onions.
Yoyo: Wei ana kaman ana amal leki mofagaa fazzeiah awei.
Yoyo: Me too. I have a very awesome surprise for you.
Carmella: Eih heya?
Carmella: What is it?
Yoyo: Maagoun assnan, wei forshat assnan, wei leban aashaan testaamileehum baad maa takli el-fessikh wei el-bassal!
Yoyo: Toothpaste, a toothbrush and chewing gum that you can use after eating the salted fish and the onions!
