Fatal fire in the Faculty: Three workers died in Ras el-Teen General Hospital in Alexandria, having been badly burnt in a fire at a cafeteria. The deceased were named as brothers Mahmoud and Ahmed Kamal (26 and 36) and Mohamed Ismail (30). The fire broke out in the cafeteria located in the basement of the lecture building in the Faculty of Education, Alexandria University. It all started when a large gas cylinder exploded while the staff in thekitchen of the cafeteria were preparing food for the students, early in the morning. Nine people were injured in the blast and taken to the hospital, including the three who died. Mahmoud was the manager of the cafeteria. Drug defaulter dies: An unemployed young man in Ashmoun, el-Menoufia Governorate died because of LE100. He'd been given the money by another young man, a fuul (beans) seller, in order to buy some drugs. He neither bought the drugs or returned the cash, so the fuul seller stabbed him to death. The deceased was named as el-Sayyed Samir (22) and his killer as Mohamed Ibrahim (17). The suspect knifed el-Sayyed in the street to the horror of passersby, before running off into the fields, where he was arrested five hours later. Serious ramifications: Thinking it was a toy, a little boy picked up gun and started playing with it. A few moments later, he pulled the trigger and shot himself in the stomach. He died of his injuries on the way to hospital. That tragic, accidental death had serious ramifications for his father and elder brother, because it lead to the police discovering that they'd turned their home in el-Hawamdia on the Nile in 6th October Governorate into a veritable arms factory. Abdullah Ahmed (seven) died in el- Hawamdia General Hospital. His father told detectives that he'd sent Abdullah to the shops to buy him some cigarettes. He was taking a long time, so he asked his elder son to go and look for him. The elder son found him lying on the ground outside the Mona el-Amir Youth Centre, bleeding heavily. But officers were suspicious, because, when they went round to the youth centre, they couldn't find any traces of blood on the ground. Their next port of call was Abdullah's family's home. There, his father admitted that he'd not been telling the truth. He said that what really happened was that Ahmed had picked up a gun belonging to his big brother, Mohamed (22), who works as a turner. Ahmed then inadvertently killed himself. The police couldn't help but notice the guns and parts of guns all over the place. Mohamed and his father then admitted that they made weapons and sold them. Investigations continue.
