CHANGING a baby's clothes is always a drama, because babies scream and cry, testing their mothers' patience. Specialists advise mothers to do a bit of sport with their baby. "When you've given your child his shower, you should play with him, while he is still nude. But first make sure all the windows are closed so he doesn't catch cold," says Egyptian professor of physical education Dr Nermin Farouq. When a baby is small, he loves it when his mother cuddles and plays with him, especially when he's naked, as it gives him more freedom to kick with his arms and legs. Babies love to get acquainted with their bodies and the world around them, which is another reason for not making them wear their clothes all the time. "You should encourage your child to kick his legs byputting a ball or a balloon near him on the floor or bed," Dr Farouq recommends. “Babies don't like their clothes being changed often. Choose clothes that are easy to change and simple to put on and remove. Clothes that stretch and have a wide neck are best. Clothes that open in front and have poppers are easier and it's also a good idea if they're ones that don't need ironing. You must have enough clothes so that you do not end up having to wash them frequently, specialists advise. For a newborn you may need six to eight stretch suits, always buying according to weight not age, and for the summer a sunhat and a light jacket as well a warm hat, mittens and snowsuit for winter, according to the specialists. Clothes for a newborn should be soft, absorbent and made of natural fibres. Always look at the care labels while you're still in the store and make sure that the item is machine washable and doesn't have any special restrictions regarding detergents, bleach or fabric softeners, she stress.
