SIEMENS participated in the “Euro- Mediterranean Innovation Marketplace”, an exhibition and conference that was recently held under the patronage of Egypt's Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif. The exhibition was organised for the first time in Egypt by the Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Programme and funded by the European Union. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Minister of International Co-operation; Minister of Communications and Information Technology; and the Minister of State for Administrative Development visited Siemens Workshop at the “Kids Pavilion” area, where they watched children doing hands-on experiments with the “Green Box”, which is an initiative that explains the concept of energy, renewable energy, recycling and how to save the environment with very simple material. Siemens Energy Saving Ambassadors (Siemens volunteers) welcomed around 180 children during the three-day-event and gave them an introduction about energy and guided them to the components area, where the kids had to pick up the components of the experiment by themselves. The children were divided into groups of five, and at the end of the 45-minute workshop, they were able to witness the successful results of their experiments. The children have learned how to generate energy from wind (air), solar (lamp bulbs), kinetic energy in addition to knowing how to recycle paper and thus keeping the environment green. This initiative was successfully executed in 40 days by the Corporate Communications and IA DT team The “Euro-Mediterranean Innovation Marketplace” is the platform for science and innovation stakeholders from European and Mediterranean countries to meet, network and further develop innovative business ideas, projects and partnerships. It aims to develop and maintain an interactive platform, which will provide key innovative ideas, showcase new technologies and demonstrate the latest applied research findings.
