CAIRO – The Israeli Government has decided to track down the assets of the fugitive businessman Hussein Salem in order to compensate its loss caused by the cut of Egyptian natural gas supply, according to the local media. The pipeline in Al-Arish delivering gas from Egypt to Israel has been attacked six times, the last of which has been this week, since the downfall of president Hosni Mubarak's regime. Salem is being tried before Egyptian courts on charges of selling gas to Israel at low price via his company EMG, hence charged with public fund squandering. Representatives of Israeli Government have met officials at the electricity company which gets Egyptian gas from EMG, the company owned by Salem. They considered ways to monitor Salem's assets and discussed the possibility of getting partial ownership of EMG should attempts to lay hands on his assets fail. The Israeli officials have also decided to seek international litigation claiming substantial indemnity. Israeli Glopes Newspaper emphasised that the Israeli Government has already started to take action to sue Salem's company. According to the paper EMG has on its part taken legal procedures to sue the Egyptian Government holding it responsible for the gas cut caused by repeated attacks on the pipeline.
