CAIRO - Egypt's Tahrir Square, the epicentre of the 18-day protests which toppled the regime of Hosni Mubarak, was back to normal after minor clashes between demonstrators and policemen deployed to keep security in the iconic square. The clashes erupted between tens of demonstrators and police protecting the central island of Tahrir Square when the former tried to storm into the main area. They then stoned the policemen, who fought back. Security personnel backed up by military policemen then brought the whole area under control and deployed extra troops in the square, according to an eyewitness. Fearing renewed sit-ins, the military, together with the security forces, have been using force on any demonstrators attempting to approach the grassy area in the middle of the square. Several people were arrested during the clashes, while others swiftly fled the area.
