CAIRO - About 25 young Egyptians arrive in Stockholm today to attend the second phase of the 'Youth in Politics' programme, together with the Swedish youth groups that visited Alexandria earlier this year. The three-day workshop will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, from June13-15. In April this year, the Swedish Institute in Alexandria initiated a new programme, focusing on the youth in building democracy. The platform offers young Egyptian and Swedish party representatives the opportunity to exchange experiences and practices and determine how political awareness and youth participation can be promoted. The workshop in Alexandria was very successful. During the workshops in Stockholm, the young Egyptians will visit the Swedish Parliament and meet with some of its members. There will be several workshops while visiting Swedish youth groups, in addition to a workshop on 'Vision in Politics'. The group will also meet with the Swedish Minister of EU Affairs Birgitta Ohlsson, and visit local projects, businesses and institutes related to their political interests in social development and environmental affairs. An open discussion at the Institute of International Affairs in Stockholm with the title 'Does the youth in the Arab-Europe region share a common future?' will round the workshops off. Together with the young Egyptians, the Swedish Institute in Alexandria will develop a third programme phase in the autumn.
