CAIRO - During their participation in Cairo ICT 2011, and building on more than two years of collaboration and commitment to the local ICT community in Egypt, Nokia and the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre (TIEC) announced a further agreement around two new initiatives " mLabs and MobileMonday in Egypt. “The next phase of the mobile revolution is all about locally relevant content and services delivered through handheld devices,” explained Jussi Hinkkanen, the head of government Relations, Nokia, MEA. “Mobile devices provide the world's largest service delivery platform and local developers and entrepreneurs have the necessary skills combined with local knowledge to create appealing and economically sustainable services.” The Nokia mLab and Developer Collaboration project will support the establishment of mLab in Egypt to assist local universities, incubators and developer communities in improving their mobile business skills and in providing technical assistance to future entrepreneurs. The second initiative is Mobile Monday, which is a programme to cultivate and encourage openness, equality, inclusion and the assumption that the best ideas are tested through rigorous debate, critical examination and peer review. This is especially relevant for the new vision of Egypt. Nokia and TIEC will leverage each other's strengths in leading and enabling the local ecosystem. This Agreement aims to support the Government to maximise the direct and indirect impacts of mobile technologies for socio-economic development, as well as the creation of a viable national innovation ecosystem of local content and capacity building. In addition, this agreement will provide a framework for future cooperation within which Nokia & TIEC can develop and undertake collaborative activities and projects to further enable the local ecosystem.
