CAIRO- An Egyptian court Wednesday ordered the retrial of Ayman Nour, an opposition figure and a potential presidential candidate, after he was jailed on charges of forgery. In 2005, a criminal court sentenced Nour, who was a vociferous critic of the then president Hosni Mubarak, to five years in prison after convicting him of forging documents to register his Al Ghad Party. Nour says the case was political motivated against him. He was released from prison in 2009 on health grounds after spending nearly five years. Under Egyptian law, he is barred from political activism for several years. If he is cleared from the charges, he will be politically rehabilitated.
