Cairo – Gulf royals have offered to foot the bill of former president Hosni Mubarak's medical treatment, according to a Health Ministry official. "The Ministry of Health and Sharm el-Sheikh Hospital (where Mubarak is staying) have received several contacts from princes in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates offering to pay for his treatment," said Hesham Sheehea, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Health. The offers were apparently prmpted by media reports that the Egyptian authorities will not incur the ousted leader's medical treatment. Mubarak, swept aside in a popular revolt last February, has been staying in the hospital in the Red Sea town of Sharm el-Sheikh since April 12 after suffering a heart attack. He is under preventive detention on charges of graft and ordering a deadly crackdown on protesters.
