CAIRO - The Police need the support of the nation so that officers would restore their key role in protecting people, Mamdouh Shahin, a member of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), told the Middle East News Agency on Sunday. "Security will never be achieved without the cooperation of people," he added. Shahin told the State-owned TV on Saturday night that since the January 25 revolution, the Armed Forces have not and will not use violence against people as their role is to protect their revolution. He stressed that the SCAF is keen to take action against thugs and outlaws. Shahin urged all people to help police and the SCAF restore security on streets to push forward economic development and investment, confirming that the Armed Forces maintain a developmental role by building hospitals and bridges. The ruling SCAF has been in power since Mubarak stepped down in February 12. It will continue to rule until the presidential elections by the end of the year following the parliamentary polls of September.
