CAIRO - US Ambassador to Egypt Margaret Scobey has applauded the dynamism of Egypt's youth and the “transformative impact” of exchange programmes at the Egypt State Alumni Association's Second Annual Conference in Cairo. The event brought together over 200 hundred Egyptian alumni of US State Department exchange programmes to network and exchange ideas in the context of the January 25 revolution, it added. “The US is very proud that many of the alumni here today were at the forefront of Egypt's historic revolution for social justice,” Ambassador Scobey remarked at the event. “We were all transfixed by the heroic images coming out of Al Tahrir Square of young and old, Muslim and Christian, from all economic backgrounds gathering to lay claim to universal rights enjoyed in democratic societies around the world,” she added. The Egypt State Alumni Association's Second Annual Conference, was titled “Inspire for Change.” The focus of this year's conference was alumni as leaders, innovators, and social change agents in the context of the January 25 youth revolution. “It is wonderful to see so many alumni here from all over Egypt,” Scobey said. “I especially wish to congratulate our alumni from Assyut for establishing the first regional chapter of the Egypt State Alumni Association just a few months ago.”
