CAIRO - Thousands of people were stranded in central Cairo Wednesday as microbus drivers went on strike in protest against allegedly unfair fines. Strikers complained that most of the traffic tickets imposed on their vehicles were arbitrary and that they had to pay “tremendous fines”. They added that non-commissioned police officers dealt with them arrogantly making some of them feel they were inferior. They threatened not to end their sit-in until the Interior Ministry meet their demands, according to the official news agency MENA. The majority of the Egyptians depend mainly on privately owned microbus for their daily transportation.
