CAIRO - Zahi Hawass, the State Minister of Antiquities, is offering a reward of between LE5,000 and LE50,000 to any citizen responsible for stolen antiquities being returned to the State. “As a result of the breakdown of security on January 28, thieves broke into the Egyptian Museum in Al-Tahrir Square, as well as some archaeological sites and storehouses,” says Hawass. “Honest Egyptians played a vital role in protecting the Egyptian Museum, as well as ensuring that some of the artifacts stolen from storehouses and archaeological sites have come back, including four items from the Tutankhamun and Akhenaten collection,” he added.
