GIZA - Security forces prevented a 'mass escape' attempt in New Al-Qata Prison, located in Giza Governorate, according to the official Middle East News Agency (MENA). “A group of inmates in Section B started fights in order to escape from the prison,” security guards told the agency. The prison's officials warned the prisoners that their attempt at escaping would end badly. Then they shot at the fleeing inmates, causing the death of Hani el-Sayyed Mohamed and injuries to three prisoners, the officials added. “We asked the General Prosecutor to investigate the incident,” they said. The nation's prisons experienced chaotic scenes when the police withdrew from police stations and prisons on January 28.
