CAIRO - After he was attacked by anti-regime demonstrators in Al Tahrir Square in Central Cairo due to his statement condemning them during the revolutionary days of protest and urging them to go home, Egyptian popular singer Tamer Hosni has emerged on the political scene again. But this time, it is the Libyan political scene. In these bloody days of the Libyans revolting against their veteran leader Muammer Gaddafi and his regime, who uses excessive force and armed mercenaries against the demonstrations, a curious photo has appeared on the social networking site Facebook. It shows a smiling Tamer Hosni; while in the background appears a large portrait of the Libyan leader. Due to this picture, which has quickly spread via Facebook, where it has attracted many comments, people are making a link between the situation in this photo with Tamer's statement about the Egyptian revolution and its anti-Mubarak protesters and his expulsion from Al Tahrir Square. One commentator wrote: “It seems that it wasn't sufficient for Tamer what happened to him in Al Tahrir. It seems that he wants the same attack, which he faced here in Egypt, in Libya this time”. Another comment says that Hosni's political statements, not his personality or his songs are being criticised. Another ridicules the title of Tamer's latest album Ikhtart sah (you chose right), saying: “Oh people, it seems that Tamer didn't choose anything right during his life. When he loved Mubarak, he stepped down, now when he is in a photo with Gaddafi, he will also step down.” Tamer's photo dates back to last year when he performed in a concert in Libya. He was invited personally by Gaddafi, who told the pop singer about Libyans' love for his songs and stated that he was their favourite singer. The Libyan leader then bestowed on him a prestigious Libyan order.
