FAYYOUM(Upper Egypt) - Hundreds of protesters blocked a southern Egyptian highway and tried to set fire to a private car that struck and wounded a farmer, the police said Friday. The police said they dispersed hundreds of villagers who blocked the Cairo to Fayyoum Highway in an attempt to slay the the car driver, who seriously injured the farmer and killed three cows. The villagers managed to arrest the car driver and wanted to set his vehicle afire before police forcibly dispersed them. The Governor of Fayyoum bowed to the rioters' demands by ordering a pedestrian bridge to be built over the road.
