CAIRO-Police have rounded up 12 foreign burglars, who have made off with jewels and cash worth LE20 million from the rich people's homes in Cairo, Giza and the 6th of October Governorates, security sources said Sunday. The thieves, led by a 29-year-old Venezuelan woman, used fake keys to get into the semi-vacant houses without making any noise during the day or night and managed to remove small safes and jewellry boxes from them, the sources said. Many families have reported that their luxury homes had been burgled over the past few weeks, the sources said, adding that the thieves got away with around LE20 million worth of jewels and money. Investigators suspect the thefts were the work of an expert gang, probably from abroad, helped by someone with inside knowledge, who had worked in these houses. These thefts were well-planned, a source from the investigating team said. The gang members knew the the location of hidden storage cases of jewels in these houses, he added. "Police arrested a group of foreigners, who stole jewels and cash worth LE20 million from houses in three governorates," the source, who asked not to be identified, added. He said that undercover police had infiltrated the inner circles of the gang over the past few weeks before arresting them.
