CAIRO - Anti-narcotics campaigners, led by the Ministry of Family and Population, must step up their battle to persuade Egyptian youth to kick the bad habit, according to experts. A parliamentary report said that Egypt, the Arab world's biggest country with almost 80 million people, has hundreds of thousands of drug addicts, the majority of whom are university students. Therefore, Minister of Family and Population Mushira Khattab has decided to launch the largest ever drug awareness campaign and clearly specify what needs to be done to treat drug addicts. The campaign should also include fresh and constructive ideas to discourage young people from taking drugs, the campaign organisers said. They added that addiction treatment programmes must be effective and followed through in order to help young addicts get their lives together and re-establish themselves within society.
