CAIRO, Oct 9, 2018 (MENA) - Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Adnan Amin said on Tuesday that the renewable energy conference is the first of its kind to be held in Egypt, noting that Cairo has taken key steps in this field over the past two years. In statements to Extra News channel, Amin noted that IRENA has been working with the Egyptian government to compile a report, titled "Egypt Renewable Energy Outlook." The report is set to be launched on the first day of the conference. The event will be attended by several investors as well as representatives of tech companies, partner countries and local organizations, he pointed out. The IRENA director general said Egypt has a clear, comprehensive strategy for renewable energy till the year 2035. It also has ambitious plans in this field that aim to source 20 percent of its electricity from renewable energy by 2022, rising to 43 percent by 2035, he revealed. Meanwhile, Amin said the cost of solar power has been reduced 73 percent. In this regard, he noted that Cairo can source 44 gigawatts of electricity from solar power by 2050.
