CAIRO, Oct 6, 2018 (MENA) – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is scheduled to take part in the third regional forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), due to be held in Barcelona on Monday. The forum will be hosted by Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell and new UfM Secretary-General Nasser Kamel. It will be co-chaired by Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini. It will look at new strategies for job creation, halting illegal immigration, fighting radicalization, and promoting regional integration. Shoukry is expected to deliver a speech on Egypt's vision for strengthening cooperation among the Mediterranean basin states amidst the regional challenges, Foreign Ministry's spokesman Ahmed Hafez said. Egypt's top diplomat is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines of the forum to discuss boosting ties in various fields along with some regional files of common interest, Hafez added. Shoukry is scheduled to travel to Spain on Saturday, after his participation in Tokyo International Conference of Africa's Development (TICAD). Established in 2008, UfM is an intergovernmental institution bringing together 43 countries to promote dialogue and cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
