KHARGA, Egypt, Oct 6, 2018 (MENA) - Twenty-nine people suffered suffocation in a massive fire that has engulfed palm farms in Dakhla township of New Valley governorate, Egyptian Health Ministry Undersecretary Sayeda Musharaf said on Saturday. In press statements, she added that they are all suffering from suffocation, burns or fainting. They were all carried to hospital for medical treatment. Some cases are still under observation, she added, noting that a high state of alert was announced after the fire broke out. The fire was caused by strong winds which set up to 60 feddans on fire. Earlier, a state of emergency was announced to put out the massive fire which broke out in palm farms in Rashdah village. The step was taken by New Valley Governor Mohamed el-Zamllout, who ordered all executive bodies to offer all forms of assistance to contain the flames. Twenty fire engines and water tankers have been deployed to the scene as the fire spread to large areas of lands, fueled by strong winds.
