Pope Tawadros mourns death of Bishop Bishoy of Damietta

CAIRO, Oct 3 , 2018 (MENA) - Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark on Wednesday mourned the Coptic Orthodox Bishop Bishoy of Damietta and Kafr El-Sheikh who died at age of 76.
In a statement released by the Coptic Orthodox Church, Pope Tawadros hailed Bishoy's service in the church for almost 45 years.
He praised Bishop Bishoy's participation in outlining several church statements and his knowledge with which he had contributed to the Orthodox churches in Egypt and abroad.
Funeral prayers will be held at Monastery of Saint Demiana and Barbari Belqas on Thursday with the attendance of many Coptic bishops, priests and deacons.
Bishop Bishoy was born on July 19, 1942 in Mansoura City. He studied at Port Said and moved to Alexandria where he obtained a degree in engineering from the University of Alexandria.
He obtained a master's degree in mechanical engineering in 1968.
He became a monk at Syrian Monastery in 1969 and was ordained bishop in 1990 by late Pope Shenouda III.
He served as secretary of the Holy Synod from 1985 to 2012.
