Dutch FM regrets planned anti-Islam competition in his country
Published in The Egyptian Gazette on 29 - 08 - 2018

CAIRO, Aug 29 , 2018 (MENA) - Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri on Wednesday received a phone call from his Dutch counterpart Stef Blok during which the top diplomat of the Netherlands expressed regret over a plan by a Dutch MP to organise a competition for anti-Islam cartoon in the Dutch parliament.
The Dutch minister confirmed that such an act does not represent the stance of his government or the Dutch society, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid.
The minister added that his government is rejecting all forms of hatred and instigation and refuses any practice that shows no respect to religions, the spokesman pointed out.
Shoukri for his part underlined the necessity of not mixing up between the values of freedom of expression and adopting a discourse of hatred and harming the faiths of others, said the spokesman.
The Egyptian top diplomat also asserted that today's world is badly in need of enhancing and spreading the values of tolerance and respecting the other along with respecting all faiths and religions for uprooting religious extremism and terrorism, added the spokesman.
